Made in China

A few minutes back my 6 year old niece asked her parents a smart question."why is that all my toys are 'Made in China',Doesn't India make anything??.Well her IT parents replied by shooting another question to her "Molu, who works in Yahoo and Google??As her Father works with Yahoo, she was convinced India does make something!!

Well personally I used to feel that label just indicates cheap quality. All those China shops which used to pop in small towns, Rs 15 cute bunny shaped alarm clocks with the 'made in china' sticker. The fake ipods,mp3,watches.I can think a lot of China now :) Even in the suburbs of India or may be in almost every country, all the restaurants, the Menu would have Chinese!!They have a signature everywhere and on everything!!!
Largest population, one of the largest economies, culture, what not!Still they are also second class citizens like we Indians in the so called 'One World Concept'.
Even when the Olympic torch going as high as Mount Everest, the country's effort of popularizing the event was plummeting, the US and UK Newspapers are talking about Human rights issues and portraying the whole campaign as a show off!!Ironic!
I am not a China supporter, a promoter of Confucianism or an economist!!But all I know is I hate Chinese cuisine lately :P

If you ask me, they have the best food I have ever had :) I am willing to stick my neck out to say that comparing India with China is preposterous.. perhaps in the future, but surely not yet :)

hehe..That was a quick comment.I was not trying to compare India with China, not because I think it is 'preposterous',because I know India is the best :)

Economically there are quite a few reasons why Chinese firms are able to produce so much at virtually throwaway prices.. Like, interior Chinese region is supposed to have labour camps wherein quality of life is akin to the infamous Russian 'Gulags',scant respect to IPR,pegged rates of Yuan ... and much more
Nevertheless, the fantasy with Chinese made toys have truly caught up with the world :)

hmm.. true.. china is beating the whole world, even india, to being the biggest and best in everything..

like u said, made in china used to indicate cheap and bad quality, but u know wat, nowadays chinese products are competitive in terms of quality even, and wats more they still come cheap.. example of an mp3 player available in the market..

someone said the 21st century was India's and China's. india is still not looking it, but the chinese definitely are

I agree with what Hari said about there being quality products from China too.....
Even the leading computer manufacturers source their products-processors, chips from China, specifically Taiwan which is becoming increasingly competitive in semiconductor device fabrication, with cheap labour aiding it a lot......

Think India has lots of grounds to cover in this area.

Western media has done a lot of bad to china..Esp. the Tibet issue and communism. Russia had the same problems when putin began..now its really well placed..
